Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday so consider giving the greatest gift of all, your time. Many animal shelters in Middle Tennessee are at or approaching capacity and you could make the difference in the life of a dog in need. Canine Connections is all about helping people connect with dogs in a meaningful way that benefits both. Short-term fostering whether that is for the day or for months can help. These animals would be more than grateful if you picked them up and played with them for an hour outside of the shelter. What is stopping you from bringing that dog outside of a shelter?

Many shelters are filling up and with the winter temperatures quickly approaching some animals may need to be turned away or worse, euthanized. According to News Channel 5, the Sumner County Animal Shelter in Gallatin recently had to close its doors due to being at capacity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, shelters saw a 50% reduction in dogs and cats killed in shelters, as pet adoptions increased. People adopted before their quarantine to not only rescue them from the shelter, but to also benefit themselves socially, physically, and mentally. If only it did not have to take a global pandemic to incentivize people to adopt animals. I encourage you to continue researching and informing others on this issue of shelters being overpopulated. With so many dogs in need, how can you help?

I mean look at that face..

If you can adopt a dog, please visit the website of your local shelter or use an online source like Petfinder. Petfinder helped my family find our forever friend Haley. If you can’t commit to owning a dog but love spending time with a furry friend, consider Canine Connections as a resource in the Nashville area. Your time could make a difference in the life of a canine, even if it is just for a couple of hours every week.

At Canine Connections, we connect dogs in need with people who want to spend time with them. Take them on a walk, visit a dog park, and maybe, you will find that with a dog at your side, great connections grow. You might meet other dog people who you would not have otherwise. You might just find yourself walking more when there is a four-legged companion at your side. Or, maybe you are experiencing extreme depression or anxiety and need that extra support. Dogs need us as much as we need them.

With Christmas approaching, consider adopting a furry friend into your family. I know some of my best childhood memories come from the best Christmas gifts I received as a child. I also will always remember the day my parents surprised my sister and me with a dog that continued to bless our lives for 14 more… dog years. If you are experiencing any limitations or have further questions regarding adoption or fostering, please reach out to us. We want this to be a memorable experience for you.

This Giving Tuesday, consider donating your time and treasures to help shelter dogs in your area. Donate dog food, dog toys, or blankets to local shelters. Take time out of your day to walk a local shelter dog. Be the light in the lives of a canine in need. And who knows, maybe you will grow from this experience just as your canine does. Form a canine connection through our services. If you are having trouble finding a shelter near you that fits your desires, contact us here.
